Hair Loss Assessment
Â
Understanding Your Hair Loss
Â
Hair loss can occur for many different reasons and may affect both men and women.
Before recommending treatment, the physician evaluates your pattern and extent of hair loss, your scalp and available donor hair, as well as your medical history and individual goals.
Depending on the assessment, treatment options may include FUT hair transplantation, PRP treatments or other appropriate approaches to hair loss management.

Follicular Unit Transplantation
FUT, or Follicular Unit Transplantation, is a surgical hair restoration technique in which a strip of hair-bearing scalp is removed from the donor area, typically at the back of the scalp. The donor tissue is carefully divided into individual follicular units. These follicular units are then transplanted into the areas affected by hair loss.
Follicular Unit Transplantation
Â
FUT, or Follicular Unit Transplantation, is a surgical hair restoration technique in which a strip of hair-bearing scalp is removed from the donor area, typically at the back of the scalp. The donor tissue is carefully divided into individual follicular units. These follicular units are then transplanted into the areas affected by hair loss.
The placement of the transplanted follicles is planned according to the patient’s existing hair, pattern of hair loss, available donor hair and individual goals. The number of grafts and extent of treatment required vary from patient to patient and are determined during consultation.
Â
The Donor Area
During FUT hair transplantation, a strip of hair-bearing scalp is removed from the donor area and the area is then surgically closed. This results in a linear scar in the donor area. The appearance of the scar varies between patients and may be concealed by the surrounding hair when sufficient hair length is maintained.
The physician will discuss the donor area, anticipated scar and postoperative care with you before proceeding with the procedure.
Â
Who May Be a Candidate?
Hair transplantation may be considered for men and women with certain patterns of hair loss who have sufficient suitable donor hair.
During your assessment, the physician will consider factors including:
-
Your pattern and extent of hair loss
-
The quality and availability of donor hair
-
Your scalp and existing hair
-
Your medical history
-
Your expectations and treatment goals
Not every type of hair loss is best treated with hair transplantation. An individual assessment is necessary to determine whether FUT hair transplantation is an appropriate option for you.
Â
Planning Your Hair Transplant
Â
An Individualized Treatment Plan
Every hair transplant is planned individually. Before the procedure, the physician will assess the areas affected by hair loss and the available donor area and discuss the proposed distribution of the transplanted follicles. The approximate number of grafts required will depend on factors such as the extent of hair loss, donor availability and the goals of the procedure.
Your treatment plan and cost will be discussed with you before proceeding.
Â
Financing Options
Financing may be available through Beautifi for eligible hair restoration treatments.
Financing is subject to approval, and available payment plans, terms and conditions are determined by Beautifi.
Â
What to Expect
FUT hair transplantation involves removing a strip of hair-bearing scalp from the donor area and preparing the tissue into individual follicular units for transplantation. The follicular units are then carefully placed into the planned recipient areas.
Because every patient and treatment plan is different, the duration of the procedure and the number of grafts required will vary.
Detailed instructions regarding preparation for your procedure will be provided before treatment.
Â
After Your Hair Transplant
Â
Healing & Hair Growth
Following FUT hair transplantation, you will receive specific instructions regarding care of both the donor area and the transplanted areas. Temporary redness, tenderness, swelling or small crusts may occur following the procedure. The donor area will also require appropriate postoperative care as it heals. The transplanted hairs may initially shed following transplantation. New hair growth occurs gradually as the transplanted follicles enter their natural growth cycle. Hair restoration is a gradual process, and results develop over time.
Your physician will discuss postoperative care and follow-up with you according to your individual procedure.
FUT Hair Transplantation

Planning and Donor Area
The placement of transplanted follicles is planned according to the patient’s goals. During FUT, a strip of hair-bearing scalp is removed and closed, resulting in a linear scar that may be concealed by surrounding hair length.

Candidates and Recovery
Suitable candidates include men and women with sufficient donor hair. Following the procedure, new growth occurs gradually. Results develop over time as transplanted follicles enter their natural cycle.

PRP for Hair Loss
Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatment
PRP, or Platelet-Rich Plasma, is prepared from a sample of the patient’s own blood.
The blood is processed to concentrate the platelet-rich portion, which is then administered to selected areas of the scalp as part of a hair-loss treatment plan.
PRP may be recommended as a stand-alone treatment for selected patients or incorporated into a broader hair restoration plan.
The number and frequency of PRP treatments are determined individually following assessment.

Dr. Thomas Kohn
Experience in Hair Restoration
Hair transplantation and hair restoration have been important areas of Dr. Thomas Kohn’s dermatologic practice and advanced training throughout his career.
His approach begins with an individualized assessment of the patient’s hair loss, donor area and goals before determining whether surgical hair restoration or another treatment approach is appropriate.
Which Hair Restoration Treatment Is Right for Me?
The appropriate approach to hair loss depends on the individual patient, the nature and pattern of hair loss, available donor hair, medical history and treatment goals. Some patients may be candidates for FUT hair transplantation, while others may benefit from PRP or another approach to hair-loss management.
An individual assessment is therefore an important first step in determining which treatment options may be appropriate for you.
